PE Days: We will take part in PE sessions on a WEDNESDAY afternoon.
PE Uniform: St Andrews' hooded sweatshirt, a white plain polo shirt, plain tracksuit bottoms/leggings (dark blue/black), suitable trainers.
Library: We will read in the library on a WEDNESDAY so please remember to bring your library on this day. We will try to replace the books every couple of weeks so that it gives each child time to read their chosen book.
Spellings: We will learn 10 spelling words (linked to a specific spelling rule) every Monday and then children will be quizzed on these words on a Friday.
Homework: We will hand out 1 piece of Maths and 1 piece of SPaG each week on a Monday to be returned on a Friday.
Each child has been added to ClassDojo. Please make sure you have added our Year Group so that you can keep updated on your child's day at school. Please ask a member of staff if you have any problems with this.
Our Learning Journey
Autumn 1 Thankfulness Knowledge Mat
Autumn 1
In English, we have started the prediction phase for our key text ‘Stone Age Boy’. Yesterday, the children were given some picture clues. The children had to think about what could be happening in the story? what might happen next? The children produced some excellent predictions!
This half term, we have been learning about place value in math's. This week, we have been looking at representing two, three and four-digit numbers in different ways.
This half term, we have been learning about the artist Jeffery Andrews. Jeffery is an artist who creates sculptures and wraps buildings in sheets to create prints. He also uses collage to create mixed media.
He goes into schools to share his work and inspires us to create artwork from a different time period.
We were lucky enough to spend half a day with Jeffery Andrews. We were transformed into archaeologists and we found lots of interesting artefacts.
This half term in science, our topic has been Animals including humans. During one lesson, the children enjoyed working together to build a skeleton and learning about the common and scientific names for the different bones in our body.
During our final week, we walked down to church for the annual Harvest festival service. During the service, we discussed what is Harvest festival, why we celebrate it and we also sang a number of Harvest songs. In addition to this, a number of children brought in food donations for families who are less fortunate than us, these were brought down to church with us.
Autumn 2
Autumn 2 Peace Knowledge MapDuring our first week back, we were looking at our local area in Topic. The children enjoyed working on the I pads and finding different towns, cities and familiar places on google maps in our local area.
As a year group, we came together in the hall to join in with a 'let's say' for Remembrance Day. We imagined we were part of the crowd during the unveiling of the war memorial in Keighley 1924. Throughout the week, we used the 'let's say' to help us to plan and write a diary entry.
This half term in English, our focus text has been 'The street beneath my feet' and our writing outcome was 'poetry'. We focused on cinquain poems to begin with. Leading up to the children writing their own cinquain poems, we looked at a number of cinquain poems and identified the features of a cinquain poem. We wrote a cinquain poem as a class and then the children had a super go at writing their own cinquain poem focused around the learning of our key text.
Examples of the children's cinquain poems
SCARF workshop - Meet the brain!
We were lucky enough for a visitor to come in and teach us all about our brain and our body. First, we thought about what factors help and harm our body. We even got a chance to look inside a class members body to check their organs were looking healthy. We also learnt how the brain works and how it sends messages to different parts of our body.
REWIND TO CHRISTMAS - The year 4's enjoyed an afternoon at church where they acted out the Christmas story, made individual lanterns and worked as teams to complete quizzes.
During our final week, we walked down to church for the annual Christingle service. During the service, we discussed why we make Christingles at Christmas and what the different items represent. The children were super sensible during the lighting of the Christingles and beautifully sang 'This little light of mine'.
Spring 1
We are excited to begin the Spring 1 half term in Year 3/4! Our focus for this term will be Romans, and we have lots of exciting learning ahead.
In Maths, this half term we will be continuing our work on multiplication and division and then moving onto area and perimeter.
In Science we will continue looking at Rocks and soils and move onto volcanoes. We will be covering:
- How fossils are formed.
- Investigate the structure of a volcano.
- To understand the earth’s crust is split into tectonic plates.
In English this half term we are looking at the book ‘Escape from Pompei’ by Christina Balit. This book will be used throughout the half term and is linked to our science and geography topics.
- In reading we will be continuing to develop our reciprocal reading skills. We will work on prediction, clarifying, questioning, and summarising.
- In writing we will be writing to inform and will be producing a newspaper article and creating our own Newsround style broadcasts.
Our Roman topic will include looking at the Roman empire, the invasion of Britain, how the Romans impacted Britain's architecture and the legacy Romans left behind in Britain.
We are looking forward to an exciting and engaging term full of learning, exploration, and creativity. If you have any questions or would like to know more about what we are doing, please do get in touch!
